Music

Is there life without music? I don't think so :) Here are some of my favorites, not necessarily in any order...

Classical composers: Debussy, Grieg, Mussorgsky, choral works by Faure. One of the biggest musical highs of my life: singing in a full production of Brahms' "German Requiem" on the stage of a beautifully restored theatre. WOW!

New Age: Enya, Tingstad and Rumbel, Spencer Brewer, Michael Gettel, Wayne Gratz... great music to paint and garden by! My newest love is the Norwegian band Secret Garden. Check out their website link!

Country: Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Lee Roy Parnell. When a friend visited last fall, I took him to his first EVER concert: Chris Le Deux at our local fair. Later we learned that shortly after that concert, Le Deux underwent a liver transplant! Talk about dedication!

Rock/pop: My all-time favorite band is Emerson, Lake and Palmer (see separate page) I also love the Moody Blues, Toto and a whole bunch of other folks too numerous to list. Joni Mitchell was a BIG influence. Her song "Ladies of the Canyon" helped me decide what I wanted to be when I grew up...not in terms of career choice, but of what I want to be as a person.

In a class by himself: John Rutter. "Magnificat" is a special favorite, along with "What Sweeter Music."

Musical highs:
Watching Greg Lake sing "Watching Over You" at Tarrant county Convention Center in Ft. Worth, TX, back in '77.

Hearing a great production of Brahms' German Requiem in that fabulous theatre in Dallas designed by I.M Pei.

Attending a workshop on early Renaissance music conducted by Calliope, then attending their concert that evening in which they performed the piece they commissioned from Peter "P.D.Q. Bach" Schickele that used musical instruments to depict animals :)
